Hemiresectional arthroplasty of distal radio-ulnar joint in Rheumatoid arthritis

Abstract
We have performed the hemiresectional arthroplasty in distal radio-ulnar joint for the restoration of the wrist function and motion in 29 patients who have been managed in rheumatology medical department from June 1995 to September 1998. The mean follow-up was 23 months(12-46 months). The patients were evaluated to access the results of their operation according to the rating scale of The Hospital For Special Surgery(pain, motion, stability). Preoperative symtoms including rest pain, pain on pronation-supination, limitation of pronation-supination were cured or improved above 90% except for subjective weakness of grip.(54%) Activities including opening lid a jar, turning a tap and a door knob were cured or improved in 60%, but ones including pouring from a kettle, carrying a shopping bag were same in 60%.
