Abstract
Purpose
To reveal clinical results of dome osteotomy for the treatment of cubitus varus deformity. Materials and Methods: Nine patients who underwent dome osteotomy of the distal humerus for posttraumatic cubitus varus deformity between January 2001 and March 2005 were examined. The mean followup period was 18 months(13~27 months). Humeral-elbow-wrist angle was used for evaluation of varus deformity and the carrying angle, lateral condylar prominence index were measured at preoperative and postoperative radiographes and compared each other. Results: The mean preoperative carrying angle was 24.7˚varus (13~31˚) and mean lateral condylar prominence index was 194% (163~215%). The mean postoperative carrying angle was 8.8˚valgus (7~11˚) and mean lateral condylar prominence index was 162.1% (108~200%). The mean preoperative and postoperative differences of the lateral condylar prominence index was -31.9%(-55~ -15%). Conclusion: The dome osteotomy shows correction of angular deformity, mechanical stability, excellent clinical results, and so it is considered convincing method of surgical treatment for cubitus varus deformity in adult.
