| Abstract |
|
Ganglion forms 50-70% of the soft tissue tumor in hand. Although it is frequently confronted in the department of the orthopaedic surgery, studies on it have been done seldomly. During the period of 1988 to 1997, 55 patients with ganglion(39 females and 16 males) were treated surgically under general anesthesia including brachial plexus block. At the time of the operation, the age distribution was between 3 to 64 years old with mean age of 37 years old. All the cases were analysed retrospectively in terms of surgical indication, anatomical location, size, duration of symptoms, relationship between recurrence and size, recurrent rate between complete excision and ligation of stalk, complication. The average duration of follow-up was 2 year 2 months, ranging from 1 years to 5 years. The size of mass was less than 2cm in 34 cases(62%) and more than 2cm in 21 cases(38%). Total average of size was 2.2cm. The average duration of symptoms were 15 months (1month-5years). The recurrence was found in 5cases: 2 of them(6%) occurred among 34 cases the diameter of which was less than 2cm and other three(14%) occurred among 21 cases, larger than 2cm, :3 of them(7%) occurred among 45 cases which was completely excised mass and other two(20%) occurred among 10 cases which was only ligated stalk of mass. There were no other complication. |
