Abstract
The 24 patients of Dupuytren's contracture, who had operations between January 1987 and April 1999 in St Mary's and Holy Family Hospitals and traced over 6 months, were reviewed retrospectively. Recently, they were followed-up by telephone and re-admission. Most patients were between 50 to 69 years old (19/24) with mean age of 60.5 years. Male patients were 20 out of 24. Most of the patients had flexion contractures of their ring and/or little fingers. Although farmers (8) and laborers (4) were the main population, white color workers (6) and house wives (2) were also involved indicating non-traumatic origin of the disease. Most of the patients were operated by partial or subtotal fasciectomy with or without skin graft or z-plasty, and their results by the classification of Honner11), were good or excellent in 22 patients (30 hands out of 32). Although there are no relations between the functional results and the operation methods in this retrospective study, it was necessary to emphasize that the surgeon should know the detailed anatomy or pathoanatomy of this intriguing disease to benefit the disabled hands.
