Abstract |
The experiments here assessed the chronologic influences for 9 weeks after the autogenous nerve graft, vein graft, degenerated skeketal muscle graft which was denatured by deep freezing and thawing in hypotonic solution, and Goretex tube interposition, on axonal growth for the sciatic nerve gap of 10mm in each 15 rabbits, and surveyed whether degenerated muscle or vein interposition able to serve as a nerve conduit better than autogenous nerve graft clinically. The results were as follows: 1. Nerve conduction velocity was measured to 43.37¡¾15.76 m/sec in narmal sciatic nerve, but it was decreased at the 9th week of experiment by 10.80¡¾4.14 m/sec in nerve graft poup, 8.17¡¾1.10 m/sec in vein graft poup, 9.27¡¾3.11 m/sec in Goretex tube inserted poup, and 9.91¡¾2,17 m/sec in degenerated muscle graft group. 2. Total numbers of regenerated myelinated axons were 4,608¡¾82/mm in nerve graft group, 3,416¡¾87/mm in vein graft group, 3,568¡¾137/mm in degenerated muscle graft group and 3,213¡¾43/mm in Goretex tube inserted group at the end of experiment. 3. The number of axons are decreased in nerve graft group than named because of nerve degeneration by blood insufficiency. No neuromas at the nerve endings were farmed in vein and Goretex tube graft groups suggesting having a good cuffing effect, but the number of axons are less than autogenous nerve graft poup. In degenerated muscle graft group, the numbers of axons in both groups are less than normal but much more than vein and Goretex tube insated groups. Conclusively, nerve repair using degenerated skeletal muscle or vein graft could be employed as one of favorable nerve conduit, but as a second choice after the autogenous nerve graft. |
