Abstract |
Epidermoid or inclusion cysts are not infrequently found on the hand, especially on the volar aspect of the fingers and palm. They usually occur in men who do a good deal of manual labor, such as carpenters. It is thought that they either are due to trauma or are congenital in origin. According to the theory of trauma, the epithelial elements of the skin are implanted subcutaneously by the trauma, and as a result there develops a rounded or ovalshaped tumor which resembles clinically the ordinary sebaceous cysts, The treatment is simple surgical removal of the tumor mass, the entire growth being dissected free from the surrounding area and removal. It is important here, as in sebaceous cysts, that all of the wall be removed, otherwise recurrence is likely. We repart a case of inclusion cyst after flap surgery for thumb degloving injury. After complete removal of cyst, the result was satisfactory without recurrence. |
