Abstract |
Locking of the metacarpophalangeal (MP) joint has been rarely documented. Cases have been reported with the following causes: marginal osteophytes of metacarpal head, tear of volar plate with enlarged articular eminence of the metacarpal head, enlarged impinging sesamoid bone, tear of the collateral ligament locking behind the metacarpal head, loose body in the MP joint and neoplasm of the volar plate. We experienced a case of locking of the MP joint caused by entrapment of the lumbricalis on a bony prominence of the second metacarpal head, which is a cause had not been reported previously. Locking was relieved by excision of bony prominence and freeing the lumbricalis muscle. |
