Abstract
Purpose
To evaluate the result of surgical treatment of Type Ⅱ and Type Ⅲ fracture of the coronoid process of ulna with K-wires fixation. Materials and Methods: From July 1998 through December 2003, seven cases were available for followup with fracture of the coronoid process that underwent surgical treatment. According to Regan’s classification, 4 cases belong to Type Ⅱ, 3 cases Type Ⅲ. All cases were treated by open reduction and K-wire fixation. Results: Function of seven cases was classified by the Mayo elbow performance index; average points of pain were 45 points, range of motion 17.8 points, stability 10 points and function 21.4 points. Results were graded as excellent(91 to 100 points) in 3 cases of Type Ⅱ 4 cases, and one case of Type Ⅲ 3 cases, good(81 to 90 points) in one case of Type Ⅱ 4 cases and 2 cases of Type Ⅲ 3 cases. There were no fair and poor results. Conclusion: In the treatment of fracture of coronoid process, accurate anatomical open reduction, stable fixation and early mobilization would result in good functional effects.
