Abstract
Purpose
We evaluate the usefulness of deltopectoral approach for the operative treatment of greater tuberosity fracture. Materials and Methods : From October 1995 to March 2002, ten cases of two-part displaced fracture of the greater tuberosity were reviewed. They had been treated with open reduction and internal fixation using deltopectoral approach and followed up minimally of one year. The clinical results were evaluated with ASES (American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons) score. Results: All cases (100%) which was operated using deltopectoral approach (10 cases) showed satisfactory results, nine cases (90%) were excellent, one case (10%) was good. Mean value of ASES score was 97.3 (88~100) points. Conclusion: Deltopectoral approach was also considered to be useful method for the operative treatment of greater tuberosity fracture. We believe that it allows a full surgical view for possible anatomical reduction and internal fixation of the greater tuberosity fracture without damage to the deltoid muscle and axillary nerve.
